non-format design

i’ve been thinking a lot about the potential in a move back toward the non-format, no grid aesthetic of david carson as reaction to all of the flat vector work that has dominated design over the last decade. while there is obviously nothing wrong with following trends, it seems as though there is a pronounced risk in getting lost in the visual shuffle when there is little to distinguish your work from everyone else.
